GTA 6 Online Release Window Leaked by Twitch CEO
Rockstar has locked down every frame, every word, every detail about GTA 6 for years. But all it took was a Bloomberg interview with Twitch’s CEO for the multiplayer launch window to slip out into the open.
Dan Clancy clearly missed the memo on Rockstar’s ironclad secrecy. In an interview published today, the Twitch boss explains he’s spent “a lot of time” working with Rockstar to prep GTA 6 for the platform—and casually drops that the online mode is landing in 2027. Just days after a Scottish court revealed GTA 6 Online will support 32 players, this is another crack in Rockstar’s wall of silence.

Twitch and Rockstar have been plotting the event backstage for months
Dan Clancy’s statement isn’t just a throwaway comment. The Twitch CEO describes a deep partnership with Rockstar to anticipate GTA 6’s impact on the platform. “We’ve spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them figure out how to involve our creators,” he tells Bloomberg. Twitch isn’t just a bystander here—it’s a strategic partner with a backstage pass.

The platform has every reason to nurture this relationship. GTA RP—those roleplay servers where streamers live out characters in the GTA 5 Online universe—has been one of Twitch’s most-watched categories for years. Entire communities have sprung up around it, generating millions of hours of viewing. Clancy is betting on a massive comeback: he believes GTA 6 will bring back users who haven’t logged in for ages. “It’s definitely going to spike overall viewership in a big way,” he says, though he admits he can’t put a number on it. This level of involvement suggests Twitch knows way more than Clancy let slip. And that’s what makes his multiplayer reveal so telling: he’s not speculating—he’s planning.
2027: the year of multiplayer—and maybe PC
The key line from the interview is crystal clear: “You’ll see a big spike with GTA 6, but an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.” Bloomberg calls this an “anticipation” rather than an official confirmation. But Clancy’s tone leaves little room for doubt—he talks like someone who’s seen the schedule.
This 2027 window actually lines up with what Rockstar did for GTA 5. Back in 2013, after several delays, GTA 6 finally launches solo on November 19, 2026, and Rockstar already used this staggered approach with GTA 5 Online, which dropped two weeks after the base game. This time, the studio seems to be going for a much longer gap—probably to polish the multiplayer experience without overshadowing the solo launch. The community also picked up on a key detail: GTA RP only works on PC via mods like FiveM. If Rockstar wants to cash in on that ecosystem from day one, a simultaneous PC launch in 2027 would make perfect sense.
32 players confirmed, but the community isn’t sold
While Twitch is popping the champagne, some players remain skeptical. Court documents from the Glasgow trial revealed a 32-player cap for GTA 6 Online—exactly the same as GTA 5 Online on PS4 and Xbox One. On a map said to be two or three times bigger than Los Santos, that number sparked a wave of disappointment. Here’s what players were hoping for at minimum:
- Lobbies of 64 to 128 players to match the map’s scale
- Online population density on par with single-player mode
- Multiplayer activities reworked to justify the delayed launch
The contrast is stark between Clancy’s hype—talking about an “even bigger spike” than the solo launch—and a community questioning the real ambition for online. On the hardware front, the race is already on: the PS5 Pro is sold out everywhere in Europe, and for good reason—you’ll need a PS5 Pro to hit 60 FPS in GTA 6. Even Sony is pulling the same scarcity playbook as with the 30th anniversary DualSense for the game’s themed controller.
Rockstar locks down every pixel of its trailers, controls every syllable of its press releases, and hunts down leaks all the way to court. But with two months to go before GTA 6 launches, it’s a Scottish judge and the Twitch CEO who are sketching out the multiplayer mode. The studio still hasn’t confirmed anything officially—the only question is how much longer they can keep quiet.
